Line Strainer
Manual & Automatic Pipeline Strainers: Manual Strainers are used by industrial and commercial customers to protect their process piping equipment by removing debris from the liquid that flows through pipelines. These include duplex basket strainers, simplex basket strainers, Y strainers and Tee type strainers. Pipeline basket strainers are available in sizes from ¼” to 48”.

Duplex Basket Strainers: A duplex basket strainer can operate continuously and never has to be shut down for cleaning. A diverter plug is carefully fitted to the strainer body. It permits flow to pass either left or right. When one basket becomes full, the flow is shifted to the other one.
A flow diverter valve isolates the two strainer basket chambers and prevents fluid by-pass. A handle operates the cartridge and diverts the system flow from one chamber to the other, the flow in the pipeline is never shut off, perfect for batch or continuous process applications. When a strainer basket needs to be cleaned, the lever handle is turned to take the basket out of service and to divert the flow through the other chamber. The position of the handle clearly indicates at all times which chamber is in service. No special tools are needed to access the strainer basket for cleaning. The chamber is first drained and then the cover is lifted and swung clear of the chamber opening. The dynamic diverter cartridge seals prevent fluid by-pass into the out-of-service chamber, making for easy strainer basket servicing.

Simplex Basket Strainers: A simplex basket strainer is used where the line can be shut down for short periods to clean or change baskets. It becomes an integral part of the pipeline and all flow passes through it.
It is good for applications in which the line can be temporarily shut down for strainer basket cleaning or change out. A reason for its popularity is the unusually large basket capacity. The free straining area with a perforated basket is a minimum of six times the cross sectional pipe area. The basket seats are precision machined to give a tight seal and prevent any material from bypassing the basket.

Y Strainers: Y strainers are a cost-effective solution for the mechanical removal of unwanted solids from liquid, gas or steam lines by means of a perforated or wire mesh straining element. They are used in pipelines to protect pumps, meters, control valves, steam traps, regulators and other process equipment.
Y Strainers are typically used in applications where the amount of solids to be removed is small, and where frequent clean-out is not required. They are most often installed in gaseous services such as steam, air, nitrogen, natural gas, etc. The compact, cylindrical shape of the Y-strainer is very strong and can readily accommodate the high pressures that are common in this type of service. Pressures up to 6000 psi are not unusual. When steam is being handled, high temperature can be an additional complicating factor. A steam pressure of 1500 psi will often be found at temperatures of 1000°F.
A Y strainer has the advantage of being able to be installed in either a horizontal or vertical position. However, in both cases, the screening element or "leg" must be on the "downside" of the strainer body so the entrapped solids can be properly collected and held for disposal. Eaton heavy-duty Model 85 Y Strainers are furnished with high quality stainless steel screens that are carefully fabricated to fit the strainer body perfectly. This, coupled with the precision machined screen seat on the body of the strainer, protects against any bypass.
Features: Heavy Duty Construction, Compact design, Bolted or threaded covers, Standard stainless steel screens, Suitable for liquid, gas or steam, Synthetic fiber gaskets.
Options: Monel screens, Perforated stainless steel screens – 1/32” to ½”, and 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 150, 200, 325 and 400 mesh stainless steel screens.

Cone type: Fabricated Cone strainers are used for coarse filtration. These are inserted in Pipe Spool as and when required. It is a device temporarily installed in a pipeline to remove sediment and debris from fluids. It is used for piping start-up applications only.

Tee type: Fabricated Tee strainers are used for coarse filtration. Fabricated Simplex Strainer can be manufactured for pipeline sizes from 1? to 48? in carbon steel or stainless steel.
These are available with ANSI Class 600, 900, or 1500 flanges, Hinged cover or davit assembly for easier maintenance, Alloy construction for body and baskets, RTJ-style connections, Vent valves, Drain valves, Gauge taps, Back flushing system for manual or automated cleaning, Pressure differential gauge and switches, Steam jacket for highly viscous fluids, Rotated or offset nozzle placement, High pressure capabilities, and ASME Code construction.

Applications: Strainers are engineered to withstand the most aggressive industrial and commercial, steam and gas applications. Available in carbon steel or stainless steel for pipeline sizes from 1/4" to 10", with threaded, flanged, or socket weld connections.
Markets served include: Chemical processing, Petroleum, Power generation, Marine, Water, Oil & Gas, Offshore, Iron & Steel, Automotive, HVAC, Pulp & Paper, Food & Beverage, Pharmaceutical.
